Hilary Clinton Was on The Wal-Mart Board Of Directors from 1986-1992

I had absofreakinglutely no idea about any of this, I read most of the article, paints her in a neutral light I guess, but still, I don't know what to make of this. It just kinda leaves me with a little dirty feeling inside I suppose...

As a Director, Clinton Moved Wal-Mart Board, but Only So Far

Never Get Busted Again

This is why I love NPR, as well as absolutely hate the current war on drugs in America. Barry Cooper used to be one of the absolute best narcotics officers in Texas, boasting "There is no highway or jurisdiction that I couldn't work an eight-hour shift and put somebody in jail for drugs..." At first he worked the worse parts of town, targeting and busting college students, Vietnam war vets, minorities, any group that would be more likely to be carrying/using pot. But then he began working parts of East Texas instead of West, arresting the mayor of his town's son for possession, a city counsilman, and other higher profile people and began growing unpopular with them. After four years, he left law enforcement behind, but this unfavourable rep began haunting him, and he found himself on the wrong side of small town politics. Having been harassed by the people who grew a distaste for him, he's now fighting back with what he knows, drugs, and he's making a DVD called "Never Get Busted Again," which is pretty self explanatory. Everybody wins in this case, he gets money and pisses off his rivals by undermining their authority, people who buy the DVD don't have their lives ruined over what is more and more growing to be accepted by the general populace and it shines more light on how the drug enforcement policies and methods work, creating more transparency in our police force. He's not the first to do this, at least I believe, but I'm sure he wont' be the last, and it makes me hopeful that more people will begin realizing that much of the war on drugs is mostly a drain on resources, time, people, and unnecessarily burdens our country with cases that are really harmless.

Black Moth Super Rainbow!

Fellas, I've found a new band thanks to a fellow raidostationer called "Black Moth Super Rainbow", and I'm absolutely loving it. Think trip-hop meets electronic meets synthy vocals. I've listened to their album, "Dandelion Gum" several times (on repeat, concurrently even) and I've still yet to get tired of it.

More To Wiretapping Than We May Have Believed...

Holy crap is this article a little scary. I recently came upon a Washington Post article about former CEO of Qwuest Communications Joeseph P Nacchio who was convicted on six counts of insider trading when he sold a bunch of his company stock right before the price per share tanked. He's trying to appeal, and his argument was that his company was being punished by the Bush administration because his refused to aid the NSA in illegal wire tapping six months BEFORE 9/11. Apparently the NSA didn't like this and pulled the plug on other nonrelated but extremely lucrative contracts with them as a result, which they of course did not expect, leading to the CEO appearing to be insider trading when really he was expecting the company to still turn a profit due to the other government contracts.

Okay, we all know that there has been government wire tapping going on for years (though they won't confirm or deny it), but everyone thought it was due to 9/11. I certainly hadn't considered that they had been planning on this insane breach of personal freedom from the get go, and it really makes you wonder what the plans this administration had before 9/11 if they had already wanted to collect American phone records before any serious kind of event had called for it.

Project Censored, based at Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park California, recently put out their Top 25 Censored Stories of 2008 and a quick look at the list makes me shudder at how many personal freedom related articles there are, and how people who rely on mass media will never know about them.
